Novelty 2025: The locomotive, known as the 119 series, was intended to be used on important branch lines, among other things. However, neither the prototypes nor the subsequent delivery series from the end of the 1970s met expectations. Although the design was derived from the tried and tested class 118, the locomotives repeatedly failed due to material and manufacturing defects. It was not until the licence engines installed in Romania were replaced by tried and tested 118 engines from GDR production that the 119 series became a usable locomotive that could be found in front of light and medium express and express trains, in medium-duty freight services, in passenger train services and on important branch lines.
