CNJ Best of Jack de Rosset from Morning Sun Books is a good look at one of Conrail's smaller predecessors. Jack De Rossett was co-owner of a New Jersey hobby store and an avid photographer. His favorite railroad was the Central Railroad of New Jersey and he covered it from Jersey City to Scranton in outstanding color from 1960 to 1976.
