Novelty 2026: Between 1946 and 1989, the diesel-electric locomotives of Class 500 shaped the daily operations of the Dutch State Railways (NS). A total of 45 machines were in service – reliable, powerful, and unmistakable. The first ten units (Nos. 501–510) arrived in the Netherlands immediately after World War II via the British War Department. The distinctive gray three-axle locomotives quickly became indispensable helpers in shunting operations – especially at major stations such as Utrecht, Zwolle, and Rotterdam Feijenoord. Thanks to their great reliability, NS soon expanded the fleet: 35 more locomotives (Nos. 511–545) followed, initially in classic olive green and from the 1970s in modern yellow-gray.
