This Kato N Scale EMD SD40-2 Early Production is based on locomotives beginning in 1972. The EMD SD40-2 went on to become the most popular EMD road locomotive with over 3,900 constructed. This model is based on early production units. Features of this diesel includes a detailed, injection-molded body, five-pole motor with dual flywheels, all-wheel electrical pickup, heavy die cast metal chassis, a lighting control board that can be swapped for a DCC decoder when you′re ready (available separately), fine decoration, directional LED headlights and Kato magnetic knuckle couplers.
