This Broadway Limited HO Scale UP 2-8-8-0 Bullmoose Brass Hybrid steam locomotive is based on the Consolidation Mallets, known as ′Bullmoose′ on the Union Pacific to move tonnage across its mainline over Sherman Hill from Cheyenne to Laramie, Wyoming. The locomotive type was originally experimented with by the Santa Fe, but the railroad never ordered any. Great Northern and UP revised the designs and ordered several. UP crews developed the nickname for the locomotives Bullmoose because they had the ability to pull the heaviest of freight trains over the mountain grade. UP eventually rostered 70 of these Mallets, both built by its own shops or by American Locomotive Company (Alco). They first went into service in 1918 and received several upgrades over their service lives. They were eventually replaced by the 9000 series, Big Boys, and Challengers. The models come with era-appropriate applied details to represent several classes of the engines. This Stealth Series no-sound/DCC-ready model operates on DC out of the box, or you can easily install a DCC decoder of choice. Stealth Series models are DCC-ready with a standard MTC21 pin on the DC motherboard. Out of the box, front and rear lights are directional, and other lights are always ON with track power. Additionally, some lighting functions may be missing depending on your choice of aftermarket decoder. Other features include a heavy die cast chassis and select roadname-specific details. Its wheels are profiled to operate on Code 70 and larger rail and curves of 18′ radius, but larger curves are recommended.
