Prototypes for this Bachmann HO Scale Silver Series Chemical Tank Car first appeared on American railroads in the late 1940s as a safe and efficient means for transporting industrial liquid loads. To protect the potentially volatile or corrosive chemicals they were intended to carry, the cars were built with more durable construction methods than previous tank cars and were among the first to feature a pressurized, welded body. Some of their primary spotting features were their specially designed domes, featuring safety platforms to provide greater protection for both the contents of the cars and those handling them. The Bachmann HO Scale Chemical Tank Car incorporates updated and existing tooling to represent two car styles found operating from the 1950s to the 1970s.
