This detailed Atlas Master Gold N Scale Alco RSD4/5locomotive is based on the popular road switcher used by a number of railroads. Built by Alco between 1950 and 1956, this six-axle diesel was based on it′s four-axle contemporary the Alco RS3. Powered by an Alco 244 V-12 engine which was complimented by rugged GE electrical components. RSD4/5s produced the same 1,600hp as an RS3, but offered increased tractive effort due to the use of a larger generator. Many RSD4/5s were assigned to operate in mountainous territory (with varying degrees of success) on the Southern Pacific, Santa Fe and the Utah Railway others were used to haul heavy drag freights and transfer runs. This N Scale Alco RSD4/5 replica comes equipped with a dual-mode ESU LokSound Select sound and DCC decoder for operation on DCC and DC layouts (DC with reduced sound functions), and features a scale-speed motor with dual flywheels, directional LED lighting, accurate decoration and AccuMate(R) magnetic knuckle couplers.
