This Bowser Executive Line EMD SW1001 is based on end-cab diesel switchers introduced in 1968 and built through 1986. 230 EMD SW1001s were produced and many remain in service in the 2020s. The SW1001, with its lower height cab was an alternative to the SW1000. The SW1001 used EMD′s 8-645E 1000HP prime mover. Primarily used in the United States, many did find homes in Canada, Guinea, South Korea, Mexico, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and the UK.
