Novelty 2026: In the early 1990s, a need arose for modern and powerful three-phase locomotives for freight service, prompting DB in 1993 to initiate the development of such a vehicle. The Siemens/Krauss-Maffei consortium prevailed, and by 1995 the prototype 152 001-4 was completed as the second member of the well-known EuroSprinter family. From the subsequent order of 195 units, DB AG took delivery of 170 locomotives. Upon commissioning, all locomotives were assigned to the Nürnberg marshalling yard. From here, the locomotives are deployed on freight trains throughout Germany, with a focus on hinterland traffic from the Port of Hamburg via the Maschen marshalling yard. In addition to the DB AG locomotives, Siemens also produced two machines under the designation ES64F for its in-house leasing company ""Dispolok."" These were later sold to the ITL railway company and are currently in service for Captrain in the striking neon green livery. Technically, the model continues the proven line of PIKO Expert models. A powerful central motor drives the locomotive, with two flywheels optimizing running characteristics. On the two inner axles, diagonally arranged traction tires provide additional adhesion and enable the hauling of substantial model freight trains. In digital operation with the PIKO SmartDecoder XP 5.1, the cab and control panel lighting, as well as the headlights, can be digitally switched. Sound versions of the locomotive additionally feature realistic vehicle sounds thanks to PIKO TrainSound®.
