From 1955 onwards, the DB hired more than 300 twin-engined railbuses for passenger transport on branch lines, along with almost the same number of control cab coaches and intermediate wagons. Those hardly differed in appearance from the railcars, reached a maximum speed of 90 km/h, and had a power output of 2 x 110 kW.

Ab 1955 wurden für die Personenbeförderung auf Nebenbahnen über 300 zweimotorige Schienenbusse eingestellt, dazu annähernd gleichviele Steuer- und Mittelwagen, die sich äußerlich kaum von den Triebwagen unterscheiden. Sie erreichten 90 km/h Höchstgeschwindigkeit und hatten eine Leistung von 2 x 110 kW.
